The most recent Australian census figures have been published with a bleak spiritual picture painted for our nation Australia. The religious makeup of Australia has shifted slowly over the past 50 years. In 1966, Christianity was the main religion (88%). In the 10 years from 2006 to 2016, the proportion of people reporting a religion other than Christianity in the Census increased from 5.6% in 2006 to 8.2% in 2016. Although the increase was spread across most of the non-Christian religions, the top two were Hinduism (0.7% in 2006 to 1.9% in 2016) and Islam (1.7% to 2.6%). Those reporting no religion increased noticeably from 19% in 2006 to 30% in 2016. The largest change was between 2011 (22%) and 2016, when an additional 2.2 million people reported having no religion. As Christians living today we have a great task before us, a massive field of people to get the good news of Jesus Christ to. For the great tragedy today is people, children especially, having never heard of Jesus Christ, let alone that He is the Son of God and the Saviour of the world. We cannot sit idly by and live a “selfish Christianity”. The bible knows of no such living! This week share Jesus Christ with someone – it’s a blessed command of Jesus that we do so!
God’s peace which is so great we cannot understand it, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus – Phil 4:7
God is with us even in the darkness and He will respond when we turn to Him for comfort and help. Have you ever fallen asleep in the midst of your prayer time? Don’t feel guilty, it is a sign of your rest and peace in God. The psalmist said, I will lie down and sleep in peace. God is always near you and with you when you drive the car, take a shower, prepare dinner for your family. Become aware of His presence and you can begin a conversation with God anytime you choose. “Thou art my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping thy presence my light – Irish poem by Mary Elizabeth Byrne. Be conscious of God thr’out your week – Helen.
CCSH has a tithe and offering container at the left side of the sanctuary as you enter for your grace giving for the work of the Lord here. – CCSH Account number: 2490144 & BSB: 306089 for those who wish to give electronically. 2Co 9:6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
The Sunday school and crèche classrooms will be getting new floors in the second week of the school holidays. Men are required to clear the rooms for the floors to be laid and then place back the furniture once the work is complete. Not a big task if we have a team. See our Building Maintenance Director – Reece De Jonge to be part of the team required.
We ask that once the service has commenced that should you need to leave the sanctuary that you are mindful to not be a distraction to those worshipping and listening to God’s Word. If you are returning please do so to the seating at the back of the sanctuary – thank you for your consideration.
