Thoughts on ANZAC DAY….

Australia did not conscript its soldiers to fight in the Great War – all Australian soldiers were volunteers…..

The First World War had a devastating impact on Australia. In 1914 the male population of Australia was less than 3 million, yet almost 400,000 of them volunteered to fight in the war. As many as 60,000 died and tens of thousands more were wounded.

In 1939 Australia with a population of just 6.9 million people, 40,000 young Australians made the ultimate sacrifice in WW 11 with another 40,000 wounded.

Australian war dead of the First and Second World Wars total 102,256.

WW2 – a young Aussie Digger wrote, “I prayed a lot, I believe in prayer. I knew my parents and grandparents were praying for me so that helped me lot. And of course, I had my mates. When you have good friends, good mates, you don’t leave them. It was a brotherhood. We got a message from Port Moresby that . . . we had to stay there and fight to the death. That was horrifying. I thought, ‘Well, I won’t see my family again, I won’t see Australia again.’ But I was prepared, like the rest of us, to stay there and fight to the finish.”

Let us remember them and the precious freedom we have to serve the Lord and worship Jesus Christ in this blessed nation Australia!

Sunday School teacher and helper meeting today straight after the service – classroom #1.

The feast of Pentecost – Pentecost is significant in both the Old and New Testaments. “Pentecost” is actually the Greek name for a festival known in the Old Testament as the Feast of Weeks (Leviticus 23:15; Deuteronomy 16:9). The Greek word means “fifty” and refers to the fifty days that have elapsed since the wave offering of Passover. The Feast of Weeks celebrated the end of the grain harvest. Most interesting, however, is its use in Joel and Acts. Looking back to Joel’s prophecy (Joel 2:8–32) and forward to the promise of the Holy Spirit in Christ’s last words on earth before His ascension into heaven (Acts 1:8), Pentecost signals the beginning of the church age.

Helen’s Heart

That their hearts be encouraged having been knit together in love – Col 2:2 There is a saying “we are most like beasts when we kill. We are most like men when we judge. We are most like God when we forgive.” Love allows us to quickly forgive and overlook others’ offences. Some people admittedly are harder to love than others, yet they heed our love perhaps more than others. ‘Stretch’ to love one another this week. There will be a brief Sunday school meeting straight after church in S/S 1 room. All teachers and helpers please. Helen

Grace Giving

Dads and mums don’t forget to give/remind your little ones of the blessed opportunity to give in their own Sunday school service – it will be a blessing to them!

CCSH has a tithe and offering container at the left side of the sanctuary as you enter for your grace giving for the work of the Lord here. – CCSH Account number: 2490144 & BSB: 306089 for those who wish to give electronically. 2Co 9:6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.

Church Etiquette

We ask that once the service has commenced that should you need to leave the sanctuary that you are mindful to not be a distraction to those worshipping and listening to God’s Word. If you are returning please do so to the seating at the back of the sanctuary – thank you for your consideration.

Become a Calvary servant and be part of the many ministry opportunities that exist here at CCSH – simply fill in a Connection card and place it in the offering container and begin to pray about how you can be part of the Lord’s work here.

Jesus is Alive and He is coming back soon!
