Is God doing ANYTHING????

“Is God doing anything?” This is a question that Christians living in the comfort of the Western World can often ask. The answer is amazing and extraordinary. According to Jason Mandryk in The State of The Gospel in Perspectives on the World Christian Movement Reader, the last few decades of our time, God has been up to something extraordinary. Here are some statistics: o More people have been reached with the Gospel in the last 50 years than in the previous 1,900! (Not so hard to believe when you factor in the growth of Christianity in China, India, and the continents of Africa and South America!) o Evangelical Christianity is currently the fastest growing religious movement in the world today. (Double that of Islam’s and more than triple the world’s population growth rate!) o About 1 million churches have been planted in the last 15 years These statistics indicate, as always, that God is at work in our time. On Sunday night we learnt from Hebrews Ch 11 how Rahab welcomed the purposes of God in her life at a time when God was displaying his extraordinary power to the people of Canaan. As a result she was saved from the destruction of Jericho, she is mentioned as an example in the great faith chapters of the Bible (Hebrews Ch 11 and James Ch 2), and she  became a part of the genealogy of Jesus (Rahab was the mother of Boaz, which made her the great-great- grandmother of King David, one of the direct ancestors of Joseph, the husband of Mary to whom Jesus was born.) Not bad for a woman who was a lying prostitute! (Joshua Ch 2) The answer to the question is an emphatic ‘yes’! God is working! The question now should be, “Am I going to welcome God’s purposes in my life and by faith be a part of the extraordinary work of God?” As William Carey (1761-1834) Missionary to India and the “father of modern missions” said, “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.”
