House of cards…

As a child when visiting relatives in an attempt to stop boredom I would often try to build a house out of cards. I would get so far and then the weight and additional height required of each new card to my ‘house’ would eventually bring a total collapse and the whole house would collapse!

The world seems to be in a peculiar space, a kind of time warp at the moment as the stocks and shares dance to the tune of the shriveling euro. But world economics are not what has grabbed my attention. It’s the reaction of the world, actually the non-reaction, of people to the time in which we are now living. Truly like lost sheep, there appears to be no awareness of the seriousness and time in Biblical history we are now living in.

There was a man who was prospering in his farming business Jesus tells us, and he just thought the most pressing thing in life was to build a bigger barn.

Luke 12:20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ 21 “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

Are you building a life that is a ‘house of cards’? Sadly I am now constantly dealing with people’s lives that have crumpled like  that house of cards. More and more as I deal with such sad situations I am burdened by the absolute and overwhelming pressure that people are building in their lives on a foundation that will fail! It’s just a matter of time or a puff of wind of a problem.

If you are a Christian, God help us to pray for the lost in our community. Can we start a rescue mission on our knees for our nation Australia as we see it falling before our eyes…and if we the church do not pray, then we have done nothing. Tonight, today, do you know someone whose whole life is balanced precariously on a slither of cardboard? You and I must while we have God given breath in our lungs, breathe more than air into the heavens. Let us expire a passion for souls, let us kneel in absolute agony for the people for whom our Lord died and for whom He shed His precious blood. Pray like you have never prayed before…stop a collapse!

If you are not a Christian, may you hear God’s Spirit speak to your heart about the frailty of your existence without Him. Will you tonight change your foundation from a pack of cards to the Rock of salvation Jesus Christ? Will you let God place your feet on holy solid ground as you surrender to Him, receive His forgiveness and find peace and rest for your soul? Jesus Christ loves you and He died for you and it breaks His heart to see your life lived on a foundation that will fail without Him under your feet. His love and His grace are free to you simply by asking and receiving…For God so loved the world that whosoever would believe in Him would not perish….but have everlasting life! SOLID!

Jesus is coming soon.
